Newest political ramblings

OK, once again I am being featured on the 411mania site in a column called Fact or Fiction, which lets me rant semi-coherently about 4 questions posed by the columnist. Read along as I foam at the mouth.

This is the current one :

http://www.411mania.com/politics/columns/67393/411-Politics-Fact-or-Fiction-01.21.08:-Week-75.htm

And here is one I did back in October and forgot to post beforehand :

http://www.411mania.com/politics/columns/60659/411-Poltics-Fact-or-Fiction-10.01.07:-Week-62.htm

Enjoy!

Krunchy

Love Quotes for stalkers

"If I love you, what business is it of yours?"
~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

"It is astonishing how little one feels alone when one loves."
~John Bulwer

"It would be impossible to "love" anyone or anything one knew completely.
Love is directed towards what lies hidden in its object."
~Paul Valéry, Tel quel, 1943

"I think we dream so we don't have to be apart so long.
If we're in each other's dreams, we can play together all night."
~Bill Watterson, Calvin & Hobbes

I should have all the CD's made within the next week, so I will need addresses to ship them out.

Krunchy

Krunchy does have a real first name, but I promised him that I wouldn't tell you. The fun is over now.
Well, next week I will once again be featured in the political section of 411mania doing Fact-or-Fiction. Weird thing is, I consider myself a libertarian for the most part, but something about being ON there turns me into some sort of raving lunatic, which admittedly I am. I guess it's because they are youngish and male so they tend to skew towards democrats. I being somewhat older and WAY more jaded, want to knock the hope out of their smug faces I guess. I also tend to be funnier than the average guest on this site. If you want to check out previous appearances on mine, you can go to the following links.

http://www.411mania.com/politics/columns/44030/411-Politics-Fact-or-Fiction:-Week-14.htm

http://www.411mania.com/politics/columns/52201/411-Politics-Fact-or-Fiction:-Week-36.htm

They've asked if I wanted to have a column, but as you can tell from THIS journal, I'm not exactly reliable in electronic form. I rant fairly regularly in real life, but typing out rants takes all the bluster out of it. Krunchy in real life is pretty much Foamy the Squirrel.

Krunchy

Are you ordering lunch or voting for president?

Gotta Love this :

<><><><><><>
BOSTON - Mitt Romney's been called many things as he runs for president, but chances are "Sticky Rice" isn't one of them.

That's how his name might be read on some ballots, according to state Secretary William Galvin.

Galvin says the federal Justice Department is pressuring Boston election officials to translate candidates' names into Chinese characters in precincts with prominent Chinese-speaking populations.

But there's more than a little lost in translation, according to Galvin.

Since there's no Chinese character for "Romney," translators have resorted to finding characters that most closely match the sound of each syllable in the name.

The problem is that there are many different characters that could be used to match the sound of each syllable, and many different meanings for each character.

So Mitt Romney could be read as "Sticky Rice" or "Uncooked Rice." Fred Thompson might be read as "Virtue Soup." And Barack Obama could be read as "Oh Bus Horse."

Galvin's own name could be read at least two different ways, as "High Prominent Noble Educated" or "Stick Mosquito."

But perhaps the most perplexing translation would be for Boston Mayor Thomas Menino's name, which could be read as "Sun Moon Rainbow Farmer" or "Imbecile," or "Barbarian Mud No Mind of His Own."

"To try to make rhymes or approximations in Chinese, you can have unintended negative meanings," Galvin said. "It leads to confusion. You can render it with a good meaning or a bad meaning."
<><><><><><>

I was always afraid that the kanji tat of Munchkin's name on my leg said something like "anally pleasures toothless goats" when translated.

Krunchy

<lj-embed id="2" />

OK, if this works, you'll be seeing a music video that my former band made in 1996, for a song that was written in 1994 (aka the local radio "hit") called Losing All Control. We were even recognized a few times in weird places (like Taco Bell) as the guys who did that song "blah blah blah losing all control!" It was a completely shitty video, shot in a Gas Station parking lot in front of a burned out limo. Enjoy the cheese factor, and try to get the song out of your head if you can! I am the singer/bassist in the video (Eric and I wrote the song) back when I had LOTS of hair.

Krunchy

Figured I would try out Photobucket to see if I can actually post pictures here without posting a shitload of HTML codes.

If this worked, it's a picture from last year taken at an abandoned cold war munitions factory in Hingham, MA, fenced off in an area of a national park. I like the way it's framed.

This would be another from the same site. This is some sort of valve that was in on of the munitions rooms. Thought it was a good contrast of color.

Both of these are taken straight from the camera. The only modifications were rotating the images in Photoshop, there was no processing done to the actual pictures. Apparently I had to resize them on Photobucket; don't think it decreased the quality at all.

Krunchy

Just got home from the hospital, as the little one has a little broken bone in her pinky finger. On the way home, I stopped to get some nutrients, specifically some chipage. Found this secret new flavor, called X-13d, which we are supposed to suggest names for.

DAMN THING IS A McDONALDS CHEESEBURGER !?! Has the flavor of the patty, with mustard, ketchup, onion, and a pickle.

It's actually really good, but makes me wonder, does McD's use MSG in their flavoring, since MSG is HEAVILY involved in the recipe.

It lists among the flavors : Natural and Artificial Flavors (including beef and wheat), onion powder, tomato powder, 3 different cheeses, and mustard seed ... OMIGOD BEEF TALLOW!!!

It's actually pretty yummy!

Krunchy

I read this in a newspaper article on the aftermath of the Virginia Tech shootings and I thought it was funny.

"School officials called police after parents and students reported spotting a 6-foot-tall man in a skirt, high heels, lipstick and a blond wig near a school drop-off area outside Cranbrook's Kingswood Upper School, Lt. Paul Myszenski said. Police were unable to find anyone meeting the man's description."

Either someone has a scary looking mom or someone picked the wrong time to be cross-dressing. It made me think of something the Lunachicks would've written, or perhaps Butt Trumpet, "Drag Queen with a Gun".

Krunchy

My mom and things

Unfortunately, I was sick this week, which means I didn't really get to do what I wanted to do in honoring my mom's death anniversary. I did get to the cemetery today and leave a marker on the mausoleum with Glo and the munchkin, so that was ok, but I wasn't able to locate the grave of my godmother because it was muddy and a lot of the graves were overgrown. I am going to try to go back in a week or two and clean out a bunch of them, and maybe give some of the others that aren't visible a chance to shine in the sun once again. My goal was to take the two weeks between her birthday and when she died and clean the whole house so spotless that she'd want to come and visit us if she were alive. We are all so sick that I am now doing it from now til Easter, which was about the same time frame as before.

As time goes by, it gets weirder and weirder for me to think about, because what my life is now, is nothing like it was when she was here. I'd like to think that she would be happy with how my life is, but you never know with Moms. I'm sure I'm not living up to my potential, no duh, but I'm in a much better place emotionally than I had been throughout most of the 90's. I've only lost a few loved ones in the past 8-10 years, which has been a good thing for me, and I think that will help me when it happens again. 1993-1995 was a horrible time, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. It fucked me up, and grew me up at the same time. I lost a lot then, but I've gained so much since all that other shit happened. I'm pretty sure she'd be happy that I no longer have hair down to my ass though!

The whole world is different now. I think my Mom would be amazed at what we've got. I didn't get internet until the end of 1994, and CD-ROM around the same time. Business has changed, politics has changed, the speed at which we live has gotten faster and faster. I think she'd be amazed that my dad has taken to computers as well has he has, he wouldn't even touch the IBM's we had in our business. Actually, I think that is one thing she'd really be amazed at is how much my dad has evolved. He's still a stubborn bastard (I'm a chip off the old block) but he has become more mellow in certain aspects, and is the perfect pepiere (grandfather) to my daughter. I remember the first time he signed a paycheck after my mom died, they told him that if they didn't know he was friends with the bank's president, they wouldn't have cashed his check, cuz I don't think he had signed one (or written one) in 25 years. He couldn't balance his companies books, or home finances. He knew who to ask though, and takes care of it all himself now.

Miss you Mom, and wish you had gotten to know Courtney, you'd have totally dug each other. Then again, you probably know all about her. You were very picky about my GF's but you'd have liked Glo, even though she's kind of a slob! You could tell when someone was genuine and caring toward me. Keep an eye on all of us if you could! Sometimes we could use it!

Krunchy (but Mom named me Derek!)

I AM THE GOD OF TECHNOLOGY ... and ummmm, hellfire too I guess? Heh heh

This weekend was one of those where if I really had the choice, I'd probably become a Luddite and start writing a manifesto ... but wouldn't be able to cuz adobe acrobat was acting up !!!

On Thursday, we traded in the old cable modem because it did this thing where, every half hour or so, it would just drop us like a bad habit, then like maybe 5 minutes later, decide to start working again, like it belonged to a union. We turn it in, and I brought the new one home (it is the boringest beige, while the old one was black) so we could while away our time downloading things (ok ok, most likely some sort of naked things) and answering our telephone (Vonage) and then handing it to my daughter, cuz I never usually get any sort of phone calls. Of course, once hooked up it makes all sorts of blinky lights and does not recognise our wireless vonage router.

(Flash ahead to Friday)
I hook up our computer straight into the modem with a long CAT5 cable, and voila (which is french for swearing for 15 minutes until it works) we can at least get some semblence of internet. I try to log onto my router, but for some weird reason, the default address does not seem to log me onto the network settings. Luckily my daughter is spending the night at her mom's and the GF is in NH at a weekend Renne Faire event, so my sceams of anger and frustration are not heard by them (they hate it when I invent new swear words like "shitasticle fuckbungle")

(Next stop Saturday)
Looking up stuff on the router (which can be reset, but not updated unless Voange does it) and look for my old paperwork. Computer keeps dying on me, because the case is old, underpowered wattage wise, and filled with dust since the side broke. It overheats with the graphics card, and is just a pain in the ass. I've got the new case, power supply, etc ... just haven't had that much time to put it together, and not much space to attack it. I've determined that THIS WILL BE THE LAST DAY AND NIGHT for the old boring beige case with 3 pounds of dust in it. I reset the router finally (I found the paper that quoted the weird address to set the router) and head off to do karaoke with my daughter, who kicked ass on her two songs. I didn't do that badly, and afterwards, someone yelled "Randall Flagg Rocks!" which happened to be an old bass player I hadn't seen in about 6 years.

(Finally Sunday Bloody Sunday)
Today is the day that will seperate the men from the men without ballsack hair. I set up a portable table next to the kitchen table, and look at what I've got. Apparently I forgot to grab a can of air from work, so I ended up going to Staples to buy a can of air! Yes, A CAN OF AIR!! It only cost 8 bucks for that can of air!! Truthfully, I needed that can of air, cuz I think I had Dust Boars that had eaten my Dust Bunnies and Kitties. Nothing that the can of air and 2 teaspoons of Benedryl couldn't fix however. Goes pretty well as I removed all the hard drives and floppy and DVD drives, Disconnect all the power cables, etc ... Moving the motherboard into the new case wasn't that bad either, even with the really small spacers.

Big issue was the fact that I had no paper work for the motherboard, and no paperwork for the computer case, and had all these pin settings for things like front USB ports, and default speaker and power and reset buttons. Back I went onto our roomies computer, after running a wire to the cable modem of course, so I could find the schematic for the motherboard. No printer hooked up of course, so it was a noble effort of looking at the page, then running over to the computer case and putting the wire hookup where it belonged. After all that, I hooked up the fans, and the flashing blinky lights, and whammo, plugged it back into the monitor, keyboard, etc ... and the DAMN THING WORKED !!!! I expected SOMETHING to go wrong, but apparently I did EVERYTHING right, even the front usb stuff. I rock.

Lastly, I fucked around with the router some more. Had the wireless network all set again (although I'm going to have to secure it soon) and the cable modem was all set. About 40 minuts ago, I hooked up the cable modem to the router, and it worked as well!! We now have phone service again, AND internet on all the computers! The new computer is shiny black, with blue and purple blinky lights on the side, and a demon type face on the front cover with red eyes. It opens up to the drives and buttons.

Now I won't have to grow a beard and move to a little shack in Montana. I might, however, cut my ball hair into a mullet, just cuz I can!

Krunchy

It sounds like a horror movie, but apparently it is true. After that, he can battle the Cockroach that ate Cincinatti.

Krunchy

A paleo-liberal believes in low to moderate government intervention on personal matters and moderate government intervention on economic matters. They tend to be opposed to war, police powers and victimless crimes. They believe in a social safety net, but to a lesser extent then most leftists. They generally believe in protecting personal liberty. They support self-ownership and privacy. Some Paleo-liberals may lean towards embracing capitalism as an economic system. Paleo-liberals are reminiscent of the attitude of the "new left" of the 60's and 70's. Strong Paleo-Liberals border on Libertarianism.

Hot enough for ya?

Yup, it's been pretty damn hot here. Temp read 105 at 4pm on Wednesday. I understand other people have been baking too, but this is, ummmm, MASSACHUSETTS for fuck's sake!

It's hot enough to ...

BEDFORD, N.H. (Aug. 3) - Blistering heat was just what Sandi Fontaine needed to bake cookies for her co-workers - on the dash of her Toyota Rav4.

With temperatures soaring Wednesday, Fontaine placed two trays of cookie dough on the dashboard, shut the doors and retreated inside to her air conditioned office.

"My husband wanted me to run some errands this morning," said Fontaine, who works at Baldwin and Clarke Corporate Finance. "I said, 'I can't. I'm baking cookies."'

Fontaine first tested her dashboard oven three years ago. She said anyone can do it; the only requirement is for the outside temperature to be at least 95 degrees, so it will rise to about 200 degrees in the car. Temperatures in the area reached the mid to upper 90s on Wednesday.

"Mrs. Fields has nothing on Sandi," co-worker Brian Champigny said of the cookie company.

Though Thursday was supposed to be cooler, Fontaine said she'll still enjoy the benefits of her culinary effort.

"When you open the door to that car," she said, "it's like, oh my God. It's a wonderful smell."

08/03/06 16:08 EDT

Where my peeps at?

Or something. Looking at the friend list, I hardly see anyone posting anymore :( I know, I don't post that much anymore either. I'm guessing that everyone else has moved on to myspace, and I am kinda refusing to do so. I am trying to not be too trendy.

Went to the Rasputina show last night and it was awesome (GOD the heat was horrible!) I took my daughter to her first "adult" concert and she enjoyed it, other than the fact that they played about 5 new songs, and she didn't really know any of the songs they played. I bought her a poster though and she got 2 autographs, just didn't get Melora's cuz she was elsewhere. Hard to believe a good act was playing in Fall River proper, and I also didn't realize that we had a center for the arts.

I think I'll be seeing Clerks 2 this weekend since my dad has the munch for the next day, and then her mom has her on Sunday. Looking forward to it, not enough movies with Donkey Shows in them.

Laterz! Give me a holler in a comment to let me know you are still alive!

Krunchy

YIKES!!

I'm just waiting for a few conservatives to blame immagrants and gays wanting to get married for this. I am certainly going to hope that the terrorists aren't watching the news, they might get depressed. We are sabotaging our own structures with greed and corruption and putting them out of business.

>>
BOSTON - The head of the agency overseeing Boston's Big Dig highway project ordered a review of the entire highway system Wednesday after inspectors looking into the fatal collapse of concrete ceiling slabs found 60 more questionable areas in the tunnel's ceiling.

Initial inspections revealed dozens of signs of bolts loosening and other potential failures in the same connector tunnel, part of the main route to Boston's Logan Airport, Turnpike Authority officials and the Big Dig project manager said.

There were also trouble spots in the westbound lanes of the tunnel, they said.

"We're evaluating each of these individual sites," Massachusetts Turnpike Authority Chairman Matthew Amorello said.
<<

Glad to see my taxpayers dollars went to the LARGEST and MOST EXPENSIVE construction project in modern history for something of REAL QUALITY. It's ben estimated that the tunnel is taking in upwards of 10 thousand gallons of water A DAY! The concrete was watered down and old fill was used, illegally I might add, and now shit if flying all over the place. Way to go Massachusetts government. I guess it's what happens when your state reps are all democrat for a gazillion years AND you've had a republican governor for 16 years. EVERYONE has their own cronies in place, and you have to pay TWICE as much in bribes and payoffs.

It's totally scary now to go under an overpass, especially in Fall River. For some stupid reason, Fall River in the early 70's decided to put their governmant building RIGHT ON TOP of a major highway on an overpass. Concrete fell onto Rte 195 and struck a car, but luckily no one was killed. They've since started remodelling it, and now when you drive underneath, YOU CAN SEE HUGE SPOTS OF DAYLIGHT and pieces of the building. All the metal is rusted and rotted away and the concrete doesn't look too stable. What can you do though? The only other way to get across is a 40 year old drawbridge they are trying to replace (the replacement bridge has been under construction for 8 years now, and won't be done for another 4-6 years due to [a] the cost overrun on the fucking tunnel that is collapsing in Boston, and [b] somehow the engineers that designed the bridge are already a few feet off on their designs)that can only handle a certain amount of weight per day. If you don't take one of those options, you have to go at least 20 miles North of South to cross the river.

I swear, this state can fucking bite me. If I could afford it, my ass would be in New Hampshire. They at least seem to get it right most of the time. Problem is, I'm not sure they would take too kindly to a bunch of Massholes invading their utopia.

Krunchy

Syd Barrett is dead

Well, that is a huge bummer. I was honestly hoping that someday he'd come back and release some interesting and mind blowing music. He hadn't recorded or even played in public for over 30 years, and was suffering from mental illness AND diabetes, but I always thought he would make a comeback someday. Once he didn't show up with Pink Floyd at the G8 event last year, I had pretty much realized he would never do anything musical again.

Without him, there would not have been a Pink Floyd. Without him leaving, there would not have been a Pink Floyd. After he left, they based about half their musical catalog on a combination of him and Roger Waters. David Bowie was heavily influenced by him, as was Michael Stipe and countless others, including a huge rip-off by the name of Robyn Hitchock. His biggest legacy is probably the fact that he ended up walking away from all of it, as a self-imposed James Dean style creative death, where absence makes a legend. Along side J.D. Salinger and Bettie Page, there aren't many people who pretty much wandered off from their success and fame.

I guess he pretty much gave everything he had to offer, and as his mental acuity declined due to illness and drugs, it was harder for him to give coherent performances.

"Please lift a hand/I'm only a person/With Eskimo chain/I tattooed my brain all the way/Would you miss me/Oh, wouldn't you miss me at all ?"

Krunchy
